I didn’t see any mention of Justice Canaday becoming Chief Justice Canaday on the Florida Bar News website this week. Still, his bio on the Court’s website has been updated, and if it’s on the web, then it’s officially official.
The Florida Courts Technology Commission (FCTC) is no longer dependent on the Florida Supreme Court to justify its existence every two years by administrative order. As of July 1, the FCTC’s existence is codified in new Florida Rule of Judicial Administration 2.236.
The ABA Journal featured Florida Supreme Court Chief Justice Peggy Quince front and center on its cover this month. It’s heartening to see not one, but three strong woman leading Southern state’s high courts. But the reality is, they got their article in just under the wire — as previously reported, Justice Quince is rotating out of the Chief Justice position, and Justice Canaday takes over the lead on July 1st.
